Botox® and Botox® facts
Botox® is a purified protein that is used to improve the appearance of unwanted lines on the face and neck without the need of any surgery
One can get Botox® done for forehead lines (overactive frontalis muscle), the frown lines, the crow’s feet region (sides of eyes due to overactive orbicularis muscle) and to correct a gummy smile, to name a few.
Botox® is injected into those specific muscles that require treatment. It causes the specified muscle to relax and a visible improvement in the features can be observed because of the softening of the lines and wrinkles. It is one of the most widely studied medical aesthetic treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries, including India.
Botox® targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. A temporary reduction in muscle activity ensues after some time. You will begin to notice a visible smoothening of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows. Post correction with Botox®, your facial features will appear to be more relaxed and rested.
On an average, the effect of Botox® lasts about four to six months.
Botox® treatment is also used to address excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis. When treating excessive sweating, a physician injects Botox® directly into the skin on the underarm or onto the palms. A single treatment of Botox® can provide up to 6 months of relief from excessive sweating.
The procedure for injecting Botox® can take anywhere between 10 to 30 minutes depending on the number of areas requiring the injections.
To minimize discomfort, we apply a topical numbing cream over the concerned areas, about 45 minutes before the procedure.
There is no downtime involved in Botox® treatment.
Noticeable results begin within 3-5 days for moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting roughly between 4 – 6 months.
